Hand-2-hand intentional miss
Daniel and Gabriella show the hand-2-hand Charleston intentional miss move.
- This Video Is Temporarily Unavailable –
This is a classic variation on the hand to hand charleston. The leader intentionally misses the catch and both leader and follower spin around for 4 counts and then they go back to the normal hand to hand charleston. The move is first performed and then explained.

Chase Charleston choreography
Daniel and Gabriella show the Chase Charleston choreography.
- This Video Is Temporarily Unavailable –
This is the Chase Charleston step. It can be done in various ways. For example either with the leader and follower facing the same direction or facing each other.
By the way, this is not a socially leadable figure, so on the dance floor you should do it with people you have practiced the sequence with.
NOTE: These moves are also known as the “Downs” Break.

The Chase into Hand to Hand Charleston
Mike and Tina show some 30s Charleston variations.
The moves in this video are: the Chase into Tandem – but not actually into Tandem, rather into hand 2 hand Charleston instead. Also a hand 2 hand variation.
A small piece of advice: when doing 30s Charleston variations, make sure to keep the bounce (pulse) on every beat.

30s Charleston and Hand to Hand Charleston
We introduced 30s Charleston in the first lesson, and we think it’s good to review it again after you have been through the other moves.
Simon and Natasya show 30s Charleston, Kick-Through Charleston and hand-2-hand Charleston.
In this video you will find the Kick-Through Charleston and the hand 2 hand Charleston.
While practicing all the steps in the video, make sure that you are always bouncing on every beat. Think of it like skipping rope: there is a mini jump (bounce) happening on each count.

Tandem Charleston basic
Spencer and Jessi show getting into the Tandem basic and how to get out.
In Tandem Charleston, both the leader & the follower start their basic 30s Charleston by rock stepping back on the left leg. So instead of starting with the right leg which the follower usually does, the follower does the exact same footwork as the leader.
The footwork for the leader to get into Tandem from the right-to-right hand position starts with the left leg as usual on count 1; Rock step, kick step, and then immediately rock step back with the left foot into the Tandem on count 5.
The footwork for the follower getting into the Tandem in this figure starts with her right leg on count 1. Rock-step, kick step, and then immediatly rock stepping back with her left foot into the Tandem on what would be count 5.
Tandem Charleston is also known as Front-to-Back Charleston, Back Charleston or Shadow Charleston.

20s Charleston with Variation
Daniel and Gabriella show the 20s Charleston basic front-to-front as well as variations.
Leaders: in the basic front and back 20s Charleston face-to-face, make sure that when you touch back on count 1 with your left foot that you do not step down on the foot. It is only a touch step and there should not be a complete weight transfer at this point. The majority of your weight should still be on the right foot.
Followers: make sure that when you touch front with your right leg on count 1 that you do not commit your full weight to that leg at that time. It is only a touch step and the majority of your weight should still be on your standing left foot.
This same thing applies on count 5: leaders, when you are touching front with your right leg the majority of your weight should be resting on your standing left foot.
Followers, on count 5 when you are touching back with your left leg, you should not step down on it but keep the majority of your weight firmly on your standing right leg.
